Kendall Jackson’s The Art of Terroir
To celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Kendall-Jackson is launching ‘The Art of Terroir,’ a coffee table book filled with exquisite images giving a rare and insider’s glimpse to their private and elite mountain and hillside estate vineyards. Located in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Santa Barbara and Monterey Counties, these 14,000 acres of elevated, coastal vineyards are integral to Kendall-Jackson wines.
Published by San Francisco-based publishing house, Chronicle Books, this 110-page book features the photography of Kendall-Jackson’s Vice President of Public Relations George Rose, commentary by noted wine US writer Rod Smith and includes a foreword by Kendall-Jackson founder and proprietor, Jess Jackson.
The result is certain to appeal to wine enthusiasts the world over and short of actually visiting the vineyards in person, ‘The Art of Terroir’, offers the next best way to understanding the philosophy of Kendall-Jackson’s wines. From Kendall-Jackson’s Vintner’s Reserve Chardonnay to Grand Reserve Merlot to Hawkeye Mountain Highland Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, each grape exhibits a flavour directly tied to its terroir. Jess Jackson describes “terroir” as the mystical melding of light, water, soil, air, and human touch that creates a wine unique to its origin. ‘The Art of Terroir’ explores this mysterious phenomenon through captivating photographs showcasing the seasonal beauty of coastal Californian wine country.
Before joining Kendall-Jackson, George Rose was a photographer for the Los Angeles Times where he was twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Mr. Rose has also worked as a freelance photojournalist for USA Today and Time, Newsweek and Rolling Stone magazines. Rod Smith, writer and regular wine columnist for San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles Times, has twice received the prestigious James Beard Foundation Award for his innovative writing on wine.
