Four Sauvignons

Sauvignon Blanc - image by Abstract GourmetOur Great Grape Day this month is going to slide over the wonders of Sauvignon Blanc - a grape that always reminds me of spring in its fresh, grippy, vivaciousness. Grape Great Day is not scheduled until the last Tuesday of the month but if you cannot wait until then how about four recommended SB’s as detailed in the latest issue of Fresh magazine?

Montana Sauvignon Blanc 2005, New Zealand
Poor old Fresh Magazine has got the price wrong on this one I feel - listing it at £14.99 and suggesting “A great entry-level New Zealand Sauvignon at an accessible price, showcasing that assertive, grassy Marlborough style plus a tingle of gooseberry fruit” Montana is usually just £4.99 a bottle. Douglas Green Sauvignon Blanc 2006, South Africa

A very refreshing style from South Africa with leafy, herby aromas and lots of lively lime flavours. £5 from Asda. [more]
Dourthe No1  Sauvignon Blanc 2005, Bordeaux, France

A more restrained modern Sauvignon from Bordeaux with appealing lemony character. £6.99 Threshers
Montes Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Chile

One of Chile’s best takes on the grape - with mouth-watering zestiness and soft tropical fruit notes.  Waitrose £5.99
