Any excuse for a party - Beaujolais Nouveau

I’ll admit it, I’ll use almost any excuse to have a party. And the upcoming release of Beaujolais Nouveau is no exception.

If you aren’t sure what I’m referring to, you’ll be pleased to learn that the third Thursday in November is practically a worldwide holiday! Okay, that may be going a bit far, but it is officially Beaujolais Day! This year, Cooking Light wine expert, Karen MacNeil, offers a great rundown on the origins of the holiday and how to decipher the labeling:

“By French law, Beaujolais Nouveau can only be released a minute after midnight on the Third Thursday in November. Within days, just about every wineshop in America will have cases on hand.”

With that in mind, I thought offering a couple tips for planning a Beaujolais Nouveau party might be in order:

1) Ask each invitee to pick up a bottle on the way over and orchestrate a blind tasting to choose a winning bottle and guest. OR coordinate a tasting between the Beaujolais Nouveau, Beaujolais Villages and cru Beaujolais to see if you can discern the differences between the wines.

2) Whip up a few french appetizers and host a Beaujolais cocktail party. Recipes to try: La Buchette Charcutiere, Alsace Onion Tart, and Gougeres (cheese puffs!)

You still have a couple weeks to plan the perfect Beaujolais celebration. Have fun!
